Field to Forest 4WD Foraging Experience

This tour has been created as part of the Oberon Field to Forest festival. You’ll be treated to a great four wheel drive trip to some of the more remote areas of the forests, where identification and forging are at its best. See and learn about the area, enjoy the comfort of a luxury four wheel drive and have fun.

Forage, collect or simply photograph mushrooms in the wild. Take in all the sensations of the pine forests; the sights, the rich pine smell and the atmosphere.

Join them on a four wheel drive adventure that you'll talk about for years to come. Options include

Two hour midweek tours - Departing 8.30am and 1pm (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

This is their traditional two hour foraging expedition, same as the 2019 season.

Three hour Weekend tours - Departing 8am and 1pm (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday).

This is an extended tour including a mushroom cook-up in the forest. They trialled this concept in 2019 with great success and now, it's a choice you can experience yourself. Open House: Tamworth Textile Triennial

Open House: Tamworth Textile Triennial celebrates the open-ended nature of textiles practice today. All of the participant artists’ works are linked with things outside of themselves and their studios. Many celebrate the sense of belonging that comes from working with other artists; while others take on wide-ranging issues, such as the landscape and the environment, and the artist’s place in a world beset by environmental, social and cultural upheaval. Through the process of creating, talking and exhibiting, the artists join together with visitors as equal participants in an open house where all ideas and responses are welcome.

The Polished Opal

The workshop starts with a short talk about opals with examples to look at and handle. Then you get to choose a parcel of three opals per person, ranging in size from six-twelve carats. You then learn how to polish them and release the gorgeous fire within the stones, which takes approximately two hours for all three stones.

This gives people the unique experience of polishing genuine Australian opal. There is nowhere else where you can polish opals and it is very likely that the opals you leave with will be worth more than the money you spent on this workshop. In fact, potentially you could polish an opal that is worth hundreds of dollars as it is impossible to see what an opal will look like before it's been polished, truly the luck of the draw.

But this workshop gives you the information to help you make an informed choice of the parcel of opals you'll choose. When the opals have been polished, they are placed in a small display case for you to take home or, alternatively, they can be set in a piece of jewellery either on site or by your own jeweller back home.

Melbourne-based trio Antelodic (led by Melville) celebrate the release of their second album, To Iceland! To Iceland! (ABC Jazz) with a national tour, joined by drummer Ronny Ferella’s Spartacus Collective, and live visual artist Jean Poole.

Antelodic:
Antelodic is an instrumental chamber jazz trio ed by guitarist Robbie Melville, winner of the Instrumental Category of the 2018 International Songwriting Competition. Featuring the unusual instrumentation of guitar with two saxophones (and occasional clarinet and flute), the woodwinds - Gideon Brazil (tenor saxophone) and Monty Mackenzie (alto saxophone) - often perform the role of rhythm section, allowing the guitar to become the melodic voice. The trio have developed a highly nuanced approach to their creative practice that allows them to experiment in the moment while maintaining a unified ensemble sound.

Spartacus Collective:
Spartacus Collective is a quartet of solo drum set with instrumental accompaniment. A combination of written notation and improvised material is utilised to put the drummer in the solo spotlight. Conceived by drummer/composer Ronny Ferella this project flips the traditional roles of the usual instrumental hierarchy and highlights the drum set as a tonal instrument that can adapt to the requirements of the music on hand.

Blue Sherlock: Slack-Off Sundays

Blue Sherlock was born on Jeremy’s thighs, in a piece of trash Toyota Camry somewhere between Orange and the Mountains. Musical director Rowen Fox conducts the choir and a professional string ensemble led by the accomplished Kanimbla Quartet. These works combine dramatic choral fanfares with intricate solo movements, including duets for two soprano soloists and guest oboe soloist.

Vivaldi’s Gloria is one of the most popular works in the choral repertoire, in which joyous choruses such as the opening Gloria and the uplifting Domine Fili unigenite contrast with the pained chromaticism of Et in terra pax hominibus, and the beautiful soprano solo with oboe obbligato, Domine Deus, Rex coelestis. This work pairs wonderfully with the finely wrought Magnificat to give a feast of Vivaldi’s choral music in a program which will also include other Italian works of the period sung a capella by the Phoenix Chamber Choir.

Katie Noonan (Solo) ‘Late Night Tunes with Noons’ Live at Baroque Room Blue Mountains

One of Australia’s most versatile and beloved vocalists. A mother, singer, producer, songwriter, pianist and business woman, this 5 x ARIA Award winning and 7 x platinum selling songstress first received widespread praise as the angel-voiced songstress of indie-pop band George and has since taken audiences on sublime excursions through Jazz, Pop and Classical music.

Katie Noonan’s latest show ‘Late Night Tunes with Noons’ came about quite by accident, in the later hours one night in winter.
Katie posted a short video on instagram of her learning a Hunters and Collectors classic for an upcoming event.
After the response to that first post, the idea evolved into a regular late night video session where Katie interprets some of her favourite Aussie songs from across multiple decades in her intimate and dynamic style.
Featuring songs by artists such as Crowded House, Archie Roach, You Am I, Powderfinger, Cold Chisel and more this event will showcase Katie’s unparalleled skills of re interpretation, as well as some of her own classic tunes in an intimate solo setting.
